Google has launched Google Pics, a new suite of generative AI image editing tools for Google Workspace built around its Gemini and Nano Banana models. The service aims to streamline graphic design tasks for enterprises by giving users granular control to select, edit, upscale, and manipulate individual objects or text using descriptive text prompts.
Google Pics is available as both a standalone application and integrated directly within Google Docs and Google Slides, with a Google Drive integration planned in the coming weeks. According to Google, the tool addresses corporate pain points around inconsistent AI image generation and complex multi-app workflows, letting non-designers generate promotional materials like flyers and social posts.
The tool is currently rolling out to commercial customers on select Google Workspace plans, including Business Standard, Business Plus, and Enterprise tiers, as well as high-tier personal and educational accounts. The release directly positions Google against established design platforms such as Canva and Adobe Express.
Why it matters
Threatens standalone design platforms by embedding precise, prompt-based image editing directly into enterprise document workflows.
Provides business operators with higher-precision generative design tools, reducing reliance on specialized graphic design software.
Demonstrates Google’s strategy to monetize Gemini by bundling advanced AI functionality into paid Workspace enterprise tiers.
