Daily artificial intelligence usage among adults in the United States more than doubled between March and August 2026, according to survey results released by Epoch AI and polling firm Ipsos. The proportion of respondents reporting AI use at least six out of seven days per week grew from 8 percent to 19 percent over the six-month period.
Concurrently, the share of occasional users—defined as those accessing AI tools only one day per week—dropped from 17 percent to 10 percent. The March survey surveyed 2,017 participants, while the August survey polled 1,016 representative U.S. adults.
Epoch AI noted a methodological change between the two surveys that could mean the August figures underestimate actual usage. In March, respondents were asked about overall AI usage, whereas the August survey asked about individual AI services separately, taking the highest reported frequency per user.
Why it matters
Consumer habituation to AI is accelerating, transitioning casual weekly users into high-frequency daily users.
Rising daily active engagement expands the commercial total addressable market for consumer application layer products.
