Agility Robotics has introduced Digit 5, its latest humanoid robot engineered to operate safely alongside human workers without physical barriers. Utilizing onboard vision sensors and AI algorithms, the robot autonomously modifies its behavior near humans by stopping, rerouting, or squatting into a stationary position. Early client access is slated for the first half of 2027, with general commercial availability expected by the end of that year.

The robot integrates Nvidia’s Thor IGX hardware alongside the Nvidia Halos safety software stack to achieve functional safety compliance. Agility is retooling its RoboFab production facility in Salem, Oregon, to manufacture Digit 5 at scale. The company’s fleet management software is also designed to interface directly with external warehouse safety management infrastructure.

Safety has long been a key bottleneck preventing the widespread integration of humanoid robotics in industrial settings. Building on over 65,000 operational hours from previous models at client sites like Amazon, GXO, and Toyota, Agility aims to eliminate isolated work cells and enable direct human-robot collaboration in logistics and manufacturing environments.

Why it matters

  • Shift from isolated robot cells to safe human-adjacent operation opens broader deployment footprints in logistics and manufacturing.

  • Adoption of Nvidia’s Thor IGX and Halos stack highlights key hardware-software standards forming for physical AI safety compliance.

  • Sets clear timeline expectations for industrial humanoid scale, with general commercial availability targeted for late 2027.
